CELEBRITIES AND ACTIVISTS UNITE TO SUPPORT SEXUAL ASSAULT SURVIVORS FOLLOWING COSBY’S PRISON RELEASE

RISING Commemorates PAVE’s 20th year supporting survivors; celebrities and activists join the mission of shattering the silence of sexual violence.

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — Promoting Awareness Victim Empowerment (PAVE) is teaming up with celebrities, artists and activists to present RISING, a unity celebration for survivors and victims’ rights activists for its 20th anniversary this Sunday, July 11. PAVE Founder Angela Rose and Actor and Former NFL Player Terry Crews will be headlining the event. You can find the full confirmed speakers list, event details and livestream information below.

RISING falls on the heels of the devastating news of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision to overturn Bill Cosby's sexual assault conviction, leading to his release from prison. RISING aims to unite all survivors and commemorates PAVE's 20th anniversary and PAVE Founder Angela Rose's 25th "survivor-versary" from when she was kidnapped at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. Since Rose started PAVE 20 years ago, she has helped countless survivors navigate the effects of trauma while leading the national movement to promote victim empowerment through education, advocacy, and support for survivors.

PAVE Founder Angela Rose says, “Cosby’s conviction being overturned has been a difficult time for our survivor community. If you are feeling triggered, I want you to know that you are not alone. To all of my survivor sisters and brothers, let us unite and work towards a brighter tomorrow for all victims and survivors. Our truth matters. You matter. Together, we will rise.” PAVE supported Andrea Constand and the other survivors during the two Cosby trials.

Actor and former N.F.L. player Terry Crews says, “It’s a very triggering time for survivors. Bill Cosby’s release from prison was a triggering event, even for me, because you start to wonder whether it’s worth coming forward about your harassment and abuse. But I’m here to tell you that it is.” In 2018, Terry Crews spoke out about his own experience with sexual assault during an emotional testimony at the United States Senate. Added Crews, “PAVE is truly paving the way for a new future and paving the way for so many survivors to be free.”
